Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information Portio collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We've written it to be clear and readable — not buried in legalese.
1. Who We Are
Portio is developed and operated by Arkio Labs ("we", "us", or "our"). The app is available on iOS and Android and is described as an espresso shot tracker and coffee dial-in tool. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at hello@portioapp.com.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the app's features.
Information you provide directly:
- Shot logs (dose, yield, time, tasting notes, ratings)
- Bean details (origin, roaster, roast date, notes)
- Equipment information (machine and grinder details)
- Preferences and settings you configure in the app
- Support messages you send to us
Information collected automatically:
- Crash reports and error logs (via third-party crash reporting, anonymised)
- Basic usage analytics to understand which features are used (aggregated, not linked to individuals)
- Device type, operating system version, and app version for compatibility purposes
Camera and microphone:
- Camera — used only when you choose to scan a coffee bag label. Images are processed to extract text and are not stored on our servers.
- Microphone — used only for the optional voice assistant feature. Audio is transcribed on-device where possible and is never stored or sent to a server.
Bluetooth:
- Bluetooth access is used solely to connect to your smart scale. We do not collect data from Bluetooth other than weight readings during an active session.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected to:
- Provide and improve the app's core features (shot logging, insights, bean library)
- Diagnose and fix technical issues using anonymised crash reports
- Understand how the app is used in aggregate to guide product decisions
- Respond to support requests you submit
- Process subscription payments (handled by Apple or Google — we do not see your payment details)
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
4. Data Storage and Security
All your brewing data (shots, beans, settings) is stored locally on your device using an on-device database. It is not uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly use a sync or backup feature.
Small non-sensitive preferences (such as your last connected scale ID) are stored in your device's secure storage. We do not have access to this data.
Crash reports and analytics are transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections to our analytics providers and are anonymised before storage.
5. Third-Party Services
Portio uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Apple App Store / Google Play — for app distribution and subscription billing. Their respective privacy policies apply to payment processing.
- Expo Application Services (EAS) — for app build and distribution infrastructure.
- Crash reporting provider — for anonymised error logging to improve stability.
We do not share personally identifiable information with third parties except as required by law.
6. Subscriptions and Payments
Portio Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple (via the App Store) or Google (via Google Play). We do not receive, store, or process your credit card or payment details. All billing disputes should be directed to Apple or Google as appropriate.
7. Children's Privacy
Portio is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:
- The right to access the data we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate data
- The right to request deletion of your data
- The right to object to certain processing
- The right to data portability
Because most of your data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it directly by uninstalling the app or using the data management options in Settings. For data held on our servers (support communications, anonymised analytics), contact us at hello@portioapp.com.
9. Data Retention
Data on your device is retained until you delete the app or clear it through the app's settings. Support communications are retained for up to 3 years. Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be linked to any individual.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also notify you within the app. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
